Forcing himself to regain his lost senses, Et moved ahead. Still his eyes focused on that same point. His Mind was doing all the calculations. When was the last time he saw it? Where did he keep it? Did he locked the door? or Maybe the Windows were open? He rewinded his mind back in time, and step by step tried to remember. Was this all a dream?
"No, I've already had one.."
For god's sake, How could this happen? He had made sure that nobody knows about it. But what about Shaun? He couldn't sell him, or could he?
The gravity of the situation was, that it was lost, lest stolen. And in any case, Et didn't had it anymore.
Uncle John had warned him. He was told that it was never safe to keep it, unless he took utmost care.
"Son, Here is what was left of your father" John had said to Et, when he found out that John wasn't his real father, but was his uncle.
"I never wanted to keep you in dark, but it was your mother's last wish to never deprive you of parents." He still remembered the wet face of his uncle, as tears rolled out and occupied every wrinkled feature of his face. He was a kid then. But since then things had changed.
Et had seen people die. Et never cried at the funerals. Et had become numb of everything that was going on in his so called family, including his aunt flirting with his friends after Uncle John died.
He never got to know or feel the real sadness, because he was grown up as a selfless man. Each day he saw John beating up his wife, because he had lost his money in derby again. He remembers his ears searching for voices downstairs through the door, whenever he was sent in his room. Yelling madly and crying, his aunt had a breakdown each time his uncle got drunk. Usually, in such situations, babies cry, because they are innocent beings, they feel the pain of others, and start crying. But Et, was different, he never cried. His mind was always delighted to see his mother get all the beating, because he thought that whatever was happening to her, was a punishment for what she does to him. Not letting him have infinite pudding, locking TV Channels, and to stay in the car for hours, while she goes shopping with her friends. Et enjoyed every bit of it. But that doesn't mean that he revered John. He hated it when John asked him to dance in front of his friends, while they had a drink and laughed at his obnoxious dance moves. He hated it, when Uncle John boasted of his school grades and trophies as if he himself won it. He was always embarrassed when Uncle John told everyone that they call him "pee"nuts at home, explicitly accounting for the reason to do so.
But few years later, it all suddenly changed. On a clear and peaceful summer day, John returned early from work, saying that he was discharged early due to Office Renovation. Et could see that he was lying, because he was stammering to get the right words. John Picked up Et early from school and they went home early that day. Nothing was unusual about that day, except that there were four police cars parked around their house. The Sirens echoed in his ears till day, as police hustled Aunt Jennifer out of the house thrashing every resistance she gave. Until that day Et thought that his "dad" was a brave man, who could destroy any spaceship, or dinosaur to save his family. But Instead of saving his wife, John ran away from it. He deserted his family for his own freedom.
With a disgusting feeling of guilt in his head, and at the same time searching for prospects of survival, he made a fake expressionless face, and gathered the courage to say these last lines to Et.
" Son, Here is what was left of your father."
"But daddy, you are my father?"
" No I wasn't, not always...." John paused for a while searching for appropriate words.
" See, your parents died in an accident--"
" What kind of Accident? Where? Who were my parents?"
" I don't think I can explain all this to you now, but take this and keep it safe with you, please, and forgive me for not being a good father. I never wanted to keep you in dark, but it was your mother's last wish to never deprive you of parents... Goodbye Et. I'm Sorry..." with this and handing Et a sealed heavy envelope, John Toyle ran, he ran as if he intended to use up the energy of rest of his life for it. He kept on throwing things on his way. His Overcoat, his bag, the keys. And as Et stared into the ally without blinking, for a moment his mind went frenzy. He thought he was being pranked by his parents to make him cry. He resolved that he won't cry, and he didn't. Just that it wasn't a prank, and just that he never saw that man who called himself his father again. He was left at a junction where he knew nothing of his true past, and he was unsure of his fragile future. At that place, in that car, Et made a decision. The kind of decision no ten year old boy will ever make. He resolved to find and kill Mr. John Toyle.
