Chapter 9: Deserted to Die...

Are you sure this is our house? Why is the police here daddy?

Forcing himself to regain his lost senses, Et moved ahead. Still his eyes focused on that same point. His Mind was doing all the calculations. When was the last time he saw it? Where did he keep it? Did he locked the door? or Maybe the Windows were open? He rewinded his mind back in time, and step by step tried to remember. Was this all a dream?

"No, I've already had one.."

For god's sake, How could this happen? He had made sure that nobody knows about it. But what about Shaun? He couldn't sell him, or could he?

The gravity of the situation was, that it was lost, lest stolen. And in any case, Et didn't had it anymore.

Uncle John had warned him. He was told that it was never safe to keep it, unless he took utmost care.

"Son, Here is what was left of your father" John had said to Et, when he found out that John wasn't his real father, but was his uncle.

"I never wanted to keep you in dark, but it was your mother's last wish to never deprive you of parents." He still remembered the wet face of his uncle, as tears rolled out and occupied every wrinkled feature of his face. He was a kid then. But since then things had changed.

Et had seen people die. Et never cried at the funerals. Et had become numb of everything that was going on in his so called family, including his aunt flirting with his friends after Uncle John died.

He never got to know or feel the real sadness, because he was grown up as a selfless man. Each day he saw John beating up his wife, because he had lost his money in derby again. He remembers his ears searching for voices downstairs through the door, whenever he was sent in his room. Yelling madly and crying, his aunt had a breakdown each time his uncle got drunk. Usually, in such situations, babies cry, because they are innocent beings, they feel the pain of others, and start crying. But Et, was different, he never cried. His mind was always delighted to see his mother get all the beating, because he thought that whatever was happening to her, was a punishment for what she does to him. Not letting him have infinite pudding, locking TV Channels, and to stay in the car for hours, while she goes shopping with her friends. Et enjoyed every bit of it. But that doesn't mean that he revered John. He hated it when John asked him to dance in front of his friends, while they had a drink and laughed at his obnoxious dance moves. He hated it, when Uncle John boasted of his school grades and trophies as if he himself won it. He was always embarrassed when Uncle John told everyone that they call him "pee"nuts at home, explicitly accounting for the reason to do so.

But few years later, it all suddenly changed. On a clear and peaceful summer day, John returned early from work, saying that he was discharged early due to Office Renovation. Et could see that he was lying, because he was stammering to get the right words. John Picked up Et early from school and they went home early that day. Nothing was unusual about that day, except that there were four police cars parked around their house. The Sirens echoed in his ears till day, as police hustled Aunt Jennifer out of the house thrashing every resistance she gave. Until that day Et thought that his "dad" was a brave man, who could destroy any spaceship, or dinosaur to save his family. But Instead of saving his wife, John ran away from it. He deserted his family for his own freedom.
With a disgusting feeling of guilt in his head, and at the same time searching for prospects of survival, he made a fake expressionless face, and gathered the courage to say these last lines to Et.

" Son, Here is what was left of your father."

"But daddy, you are my father?"

" No I wasn't, not always...." John paused for a while searching for appropriate words.

" See, your parents died in an accident--"

" What kind of Accident? Where? Who were my parents?"

" I don't think I can explain all this to you now, but take this and keep it safe with you, please, and forgive me for not being a good father. I never wanted to keep you in dark, but it was your mother's last wish to never deprive you of parents... Goodbye Et. I'm Sorry..." with this and handing Et a sealed heavy envelope, John Toyle ran, he ran as if he intended to use up the energy of rest of his life for it. He kept on throwing things on his way. His Overcoat, his bag, the keys. And as Et stared into the ally without blinking, for a moment his mind went frenzy. He thought he was being pranked by his parents to make him cry. He resolved that he won't cry, and he didn't. Just that it wasn't a prank, and just that he never saw that man who called himself his father again. He was left at a junction where he knew nothing of his true past, and he was unsure of his fragile future. At that place, in that car, Et made a decision. The kind of decision no ten year old boy will ever make. He resolved to find and kill Mr. John Toyle.

Chapter 8: The Rendezvous...

This guy calls himself a monster??? Are you kidding me...?

Ethmond was lying on a bed, his arms were sweaty and he could feel the tickle of evaporating sweat drops on his face, he felt wet in his feet, probably someone was washing them, his head was going dizzy, but he loved the coziness of blanket. The temperature was so tempting that he felt like sleeping forever, There it was... the touch of soft, tender hands on his lips.....he felt his fingers clutched in her hands, she was so beautiful, his feet were now being soaked, She kissed her, and then they embraced, Her hair were as smooth as his silk slippers, She was smiling...and then the smile transformed into a laugh, her voice seemed menacing, something shined in her eyes, and the backdrop began to dissolve into thin air, Ethmond looked at his watch,

“Uaaahaaaghhh..Its just 7 o clock, I can afford more sleep”, he assured himself, and went back to his dreams, but then something crossed his mind.

“Hell No....!”

“Where are my clothes, I am late for school, Professor Brown will kill me...!”

Shouting and cursing, he ran towards the bathroom, he rushed towards the wash basin, n began searching for his toothbrush in the adjacent drawer, amazingly managing to brush his hair and teeth simultaneously he rushed towards the shower. As he turned the tap, and looked out of the exhaust window, something caught his eye, The Moon?? He looked at his watch again; it was showing 7 o’ clock alright. Then he understood.

“These damn silly dreams”, he cursed himself, as he realized that it was 7 PM, not 7 AM.

Slapping himself to consciousness, he stationed his bottom at the most comfortable place in the whole world, his coveted toilet seat. Then without looking behind, he managed to pull out a book from a cabinet over his head, and began reading the fifth installment of the Stapler Man series, for 158th time. This divine place was what he called his lavabrary. And he was as proud of it as his peebin, not to mention the spitator. To sum it up, Ethmond Simret Toyle was a Nerd.

Not of the kind, who loved cramming library books, but the ones who smelled like shit, who thought picking nose in public was cool, the ones who usually spent half their school life in detention, but Ethmond never complained, because he thought he was cool.

And you know what? Ethmond actually was cool. Not just because he didn’t had any enemy in school, but also because he was smart. Now that would be a contradiction, A smart cool nerd. But That’s what the writer says, and in a recent survey, it has been found that 96.5% of narrators die by the hands of their writers. So this nerd Ethmond Toyle, we were talking about, had something special about him. And that something was, that whatever he did, he did it damn well !!, be it singing, rapping, story-writing, painting, mimicry, acting, elocution, anything, everything, this guy was great. By the looks of it, it seems that the guy was a Teachers’ pet. But with great talent, comes great responsibility. So Instead of wasting his time in sycophancy, Ethmond spent his time playing pranks, fooling around, and mysteriously topping in every school exam ever invented. Nobody messed with him, thought being physically malgrown, he has never been bullied by anyone in the school, except ofcourse Homersan and Wishsing, who mysteriously disappeared thereafter, and were never found. This was the only thing that made his personality creepy and mysterious, there were some children who actually feared him.

As Ethmond, or lets name him Et, got up from his seat, n went downstairs, he found that something was missing. Something very important was missing. Oh no...!!!!

Chapter 7: The Nightmare....

I am sorry I killed you honey, Now im gonna have to kill myself....

James Toyle was a normal man, leading a simple life; anyone would say that James was a perfectly balanced being, who had his priorities and pleasures equally distributed over his time. He was religious, but not a fanatic. He was superstitious, but not blindly, He was workaholic, but at the same time loved spending time with his family, which at the moment was in danger. Since his Mother had died, James never had any time for retrospect, He moved on in his life n never looked back, but now was the apt time. Where was his life leading? He was fed up of living a Stencil life. He wanted a change. Having a child would change his life.... Yes, He would love to be a father, to carry his daughter on his back, to teach her to ride a bicycle, to play X-box with her; yes it definitely would oil the stuck cog-wheels of his life. Buried in deep thought, n lulled by the ticking of nearby clock, James was unable to fight with his mind, n he fell asleep. It was not the usual sleep, it was something different, a state when mind floats on the verge of unconsciousness, when thoughts and fantasies get mixed up with reality and produce catastrophic imageries, or in other words, produce nightmares.....

He was inside the Operation theatre. He could see several green clad creatures tickling the insides of her wife. They were using shiny weapons, and his wife was screaming with pain. His wife was in danger; these creatures were tormenting her, n probably killing the child she bore. He picked up a sharp weapon from the tray near him, and ran towards the creatures, but instead of retaliating and stopping him, the creatures moved aside, and James carried by his momentum, ran straight into his wife. Then there was Silence. There are times in life, when even Silence speaks the most heartbreaking truth, the truth of end, the truth of Death. James tear glands went berserk and he couldn’t control himself, how could he? How could he murder his own wife? This was it, this was the end of the world, and probably this was the end of him. Just as he was about to stab himself, he heard someone yell at him from behind....

“Mr. Toyle...”

“Mr. Toyle... I have news for you...”

Sucking him back to reality, his mind fought with his eyes, and Nurse Harmison blurred into his focus.

“Huh... I am sorry I didn’t knew, I just fell asleep, I am sorry...”

“No problem, Mr.Toyle, but I have miraculous news for you....”

“What?”, exclaimed James, shaking his rendezvous with green-monsters out of his head.

“Yes Your child and wife are saved, it’s a miracle!!!”

“Ohh... I mean... Thank God... I Can’t believe... my family...”

“Yes, we also had a hard time believing it, but nevertheless, as they say, All is well, when it ends well..!”

“Yeah, so true, so true indeed, when can I see her? When can I see my daughter??”

“Daughter? No... No Mr. Toyle, you have a boy.”

“A boy? Ohh.. I thought... But the sonography report showed...anyways... atleast ... are you sure it’s a boy??” fumbled James as one could see a hint of discomfort in his unsatisfied voice.

“Of course, I am cent percent sure, it’s a boy.” replied the nurse, who was surprised to see the father so unsatisfied, but James was busy in talking to himself, and started walking the other way. Judging against disturbing him, the nurse went on back towards where she came from.

“Err, Excuse me Nurse...?”

“Yes...”

“You know what? I didn’t believe in miracles...”

“I can see that...”

“But now Miss Harmison, I think.. I think I do...”

Replying with a smile, Nurse Harmison went on towards her destination. She thought this was it, the end of her role in the story, she thought it would be great to write today’s events in her diary, so that some day she would narrate this spicy tale to her grandchildren. But fortunately, she never narrated the story to anyone, because she never had any grandchildren, because she never got married, because, that night when she went to sleep after writing her diary, she never woke up.....

Chapter 6: The Birth...

This is fascinating!!! Where did u came from buddy??

As Nurse Harmison was walking towards the OT no. 6 , her mind went haphazardly from one thought to other... she recollected the developments of past few hours and was unable to find a single phenomenon which hadn't astound her.

"Today is a special day...", she thought as she opened the door of the room where some more surprises were awaiting her.

"Harmy?? Where had u gone?? How can u be so irresponsible??", shoots Dr. Truel at once.

"Actually i was so much excited...", just then she heard a sharp crying voice from behind the curtains in the adjoining room.

"NO!!! It cant be... But how come??" blurted the enthralled nurse.

"That's what I am trying to explain here " interrupted Samuel, at the same time wondering that did he 'actually' knew the answers of these questions

"Just when you left.." , continued Samuel "something very strange happened, as nurse Lily here was scavenging the corpse off the blood and ooze, the BOY ACTUALLY CAME TO LIFE!!!!
I just don't know how to explain this, but the cardiogram showed him dead, but a moment latter he was breathing!!! and it was all so scary that nurse lily almost dropped him... but fortunately the boy's towel got strangled in her clothes and she regained on him"

" But how could this be possible.... i checked him myself he was as numb as dead..."

" Something is special about it, something is definitely fishy.."

" Ohh shut up Carmen!! I know its difficult for you to understand, but don't involve ur so called superstitions in this case, there's no use pondering "how", but by god's grace the boy is saved!!!! we should be happy, after all it has been a happy ending" concluded Dr. Truel smartly with a glint of pride on his face.

"But what about the mother, Mrs. Truel?? Is she safe??" interjected Carmen again, still unable to encounter the ongoings in her head.

" Better than ever!!! actually i just checked on her.. perfect heart rate, perfect breathing, but I don't think she knows that I saved her child, does she??"

" ' We all' saved her child " exclaimed Carmen sceptically.

" Sir?, there is a urghh...." spoke Lily Tidle in a vanishingly audible voice, " a problem, or i should say complication actually..."

" Now what???"

" The mother... I mean the Mrs. Toyle suddenly fell unconscious, but the heartbeat is still ticking... I don't think there's anything to worry about, but I've heard that when such things happen it's always good to... u know...kind of... sometimes heed the superstitions as well...." said Lily lowering her minute voice to the lowest level while taking out the last words with difficulty

" For god's sake what has happened to all of you??? Its just that things went unexpectedly
doesn't mean we suppress our logic, and logic says that everything is perfect... and yes, no more such insensible stuff !!!!" quashed Samuel, losing his patience this time.

"Err, sorry Doctor " shrugged away Lily avoiding the angry doctor's eyes.

"Now, Dr. Truel can i give this news to Mr.Toyle, he might be very anxious, if only you allow me.... Sir" hastily adding last word in the most incredulous way.

"Its OK, don't try to act as its your mistake, I am sorry" said Samuel regaining his calm again.

" And yes, what was the exact time of child's birth, for records you know ??" said Carmen already half outside the room.

" That would be six o six, sharp" read out Lily from her notes.

" Six o six" she was repeating to herself while she was walking, but just then a wild thought came to her mind, she stopped to turn back, but finally thought it wise to evade the issue anyway.

Chapter 5: A New Hope...

Whoa!! Are u sure u wanna do this??

Dr. Truel was rushing towards the emergency ward, just then he passed a Grand father's clock nearby, which showed 5:34 pm. When he reached Emergency ward no. 6, he couldn't say that it was one of the best sites he have ever had. Mrs. Toyle was shrieking with pain on the bed, and her husband was holding her tightly by her fists. Jessica was in pain indeed, she was screaming with agony. Her face was as pale as the bed sheet, but Mr. Toyle was constantly asking her to keep her calm, and was assuring her that nothing would happen.

Dr. Truel was so enthralled by the present going on that he lost his temper a bit, he at once demanded the room to be cleared.

"Sister!! Quick, make the necessary arrangements in the operation theatre, we'll need to operate her, give her anesthetics if necessary"

"And MR.??"

"James Toyle"

" Yes, Mr. Toyle, I think we'll require u to do some formalities....Nurse Harmison!! Take Mr. Toyle to The reception and make him fill up the forms and stuff"

James followed nurse harmison to the door.

"And yes Mr.Toyle??"

"yes??"

" I think u are aware of the fact that, Mrs. Toyle hasn't been keeping well these days, and same would apply for the baby. I personally think, that having a perfect baby in this case, would be next to impossible, but i would assure u, that I'll try my best for u"

"Thank You doctor"

"No need, that's what we're here for. Isn't it?"

"And that's why 'I' am here for"

" Sometimes in life.... u don't actually know what to say... "

With this, Mr. Toyle rushed out of the room, and Dr. Truel went down to work. He gathered all his concentration , gave a thought to the matter.. and getting ready in his OT robes, he entered the Operation Theatre no. 6

The Operation theatre, Preach Hospital, 5:48 pm

When Dr. Truel entered the operation theatre, he didn't exactly knew what was he going to do in a few minutes. All was ready, the nurse had somehow managed to control Jessica's anxiety and had given her anesthetic.

"Nurse??"

"Yes sir"

" Here's the plan, since the condition of the baby as well as the mother is not quite well, we have to operate on her immediately, rest you know what to do..."

"Best of Luck, Jimmy....ugh... I mean.. Dr. Truel"
Dr. Truel eyed nurse harmison from under his mask, gave her a wink, and started the procedure....
Outside the operation theatre, James was racing up an down, sweat was running down his forehead, in the hurry he had forgotten to inform his office about the emergency, therefore every minute his mobile phone sprang up to life shaking him out of his mental misery. He was praying....

"Oh Lord, Please let these important moments pass by without and tragedy......"

"These circumstances have forced this aesthetic to kneel down before your command...."

"Mr. Toyle??"

James came out of his meditation, to notice a fat lady rushing towards her, she was wearing the usual green hospital robes.

"Mr. Toyle, Dr. Truel told me to inform you, that the operation has been successful, and your wife has been saved..."

"Oh Thank you, Thank You my Lord!!" said James with tears in his eyes.

"But sir, I am so sorry to inform you that we could not save your son..."

"Oh... Its OK" said James already expecting this being the case.

"Nurse Harmison, You are required in OT no. 6 immediately" said the announcer in a panicky voice.

"Err..You wait here only Sir, I was so excited that we saved your wife, I just came here leaving things unfinished..."

"I'll be back anyways.."
Saying this she turned and raced back in the direction where she came from...
But these ongoings had instigated a new hope in James mind.....
